Hop It!

2012-05-16_18.36.42[1]

I’m blaming my brother for this. I was never that into Belgian beers but he loves them and it’s slowly seeping into my psyche. There was also a particularly good night in the Marine which involved quite a heady mix of Anchor Liberty and a few Belgian beers.

Now when I’m browsing the beer shelves my eyes are being drawn more to the European labels instead of the Scottish and American ones I usually pass my gaze over. As someone who has previous bad form for being lead astray by amusing labels I should probably know better but still I found myself picking up a bottle of Urthel’s Hop It.

I made a pig’s ear of pouring it. Once the mighty head had settled and I was able to taste it I was rewarded with a booming beatdown of hops. Can’t accuse them of false advertising at least!

Honestly this is a delicious beer and a welcome return to credit for the art of choosing by what’s on the label. The only downside (if you can call it that) is that it’s easy to miss the fact it’s 9.5% alcohol. Damn those clever Belgians.
